The Pirates of the Caribbean’s Kiera Knightley said she’d like to get pregnant - but for a very odd reason: so people will stop saying that she has anorexia.
According to London-based entertainment news agency BANG Showbiz, the actress said, “That’s a good reason to have a kid. They won’t say I’m anorexic anymore ... I’ve got to have a child!”
I hope she's kidding!

Sheen's Pregnant Wife OK After Emergency Surgery
Charlie Sheen's pregnant wife, Brooke Mueller, is apparently a quick healer following a trip to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Mueller, who is in her first trimester, had been dealing with mystery pangs for a month and, sources close to the couple tell E! News, had been fearful the pain was related to the baby.
Things got so excruciating that she needed to be admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center a little more than a week ago.
Doctors ultimately determined that Mueller required emergency gall-bladder surgery, an operation that can be risky during the early stages of pregnancy.

Jerry O’Connell called Rebecca Romijn huge
Not a good idea daddy-to-be. I guess someone forgot to tell you! In a recent interview Jerry O’Connell referred to his wife, Rebecca Romijn, his wife who is pregnant with twins, “huge” and then quickly apologized.
Jerry must have gotten a reaming from his wife, or maybe it was just fans, but the next day he issued a statement saying, “I regret calling my wife huge on Conan O’Brien. I meant to say there are specific parts of my wife that are larger and growing every day. All other portions of my wife are quite petite. I apologize to her and will be coming home with flowers.”
Will flowers be enough to keep Rebecca from socking him, or did she laugh it off, knowing what he “really” meant to say?

Doctor Fired For Allegedly Drinking On The Job
A Massachusetts doctor has been fired and lost the right to renew his medical license for allegedly trying to give a pregnant woman an epidural while drunk.
The state Board of Registration in Medicine says 39-year-old Robert Dolan was drinking from a bottle of bourbon he brought to work when he was called to perform the procedure at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center last November.
Dolan, an anesthesiologist, called another resident for help, who noticed he appeared drunk. The attending physician then called security. He was fired by the hospital a few days later.
Dolan's license to practice medicine lapsed in January and he will not be allowed to renew it unless he can stay sober for 18 months.
The board said Dolan accepted its version of events.

Jenna Jameson Confirms She's Pregnant
Adult film star Jenna Jameson is going to be a mommy.
“Yes, I can confirm I’m pregnant. It’s still early, so I’m being cautious. I’m resting as much as possible," she tells Usmagazine.com exclusively. "I'm so happy!"
She adds that she and boyfriend of two years, boxer Tito Ortiz, "are still in a state of shock.
"I'm just saying super healthy," she says. "I’ve moved down to the beach with Tito — I love being by the beach.”
In May, she told Us, "We're trying for a baby, so hopefully in the next couple of months!"
But the 34-year-old Jameson — who split from adult film studio owner Jay Grdina in 2006 and from porn star Brad Armstrong in 2001— said they have no plans to walk down the aisle.
"I think I'm gonna stay unmarried and just go for the babies!" she told the magazine. "I'm following in Angelina's footsteps!"
The pregnancy news is joyful for Jameson.
She previously told Us she discovered she was two months pregnant in November 2004 after being diagnosed with malignant melanoma. A day later, she miscarried due to the stress of cancer.
But the devout Catholic — who has tried in vitro — says, "It was all in God's plan."

Babies, babies everywhere!
• Ricky Martin is a father to twin boys born via a surrogate, his rep confirms to People magazine. "In recent weeks, Ricky Martin became a proud father by the birth of twin sons," his rep says. "The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky's full-time care," the rep said in a statement. "Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children." The boys' names and the location of their birth have not been released.
• It's another girl for Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana, his rep tells People magazine. "Matt and Lucy Damon had a baby girl named Gia Zavala on Wednesday, Aug. 20th. Everyone's doing great," says Damon's rep, Jennifer Allen. "She is a healthy baby girl." The newest addition is the third little girl in the Damon household, joining big sisters Isabella, 2, and Alexia, 10. Damon recently joked about living with so many females, telling USA Today from his home in Miami, "I'm so outnumbered down here, it's crazy."
• Jennifer Garner has finally acknowledged her pregnancy. At an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Baby Einstein products in L.A. Wednesday, a USA Today reporter asked the actress, 36, about her upcoming projects. Garner then pointed to her baby bump and said with a smile, “This.” She wouldn’t reveal her due date, USA Today reports. "We're so excited, obviously," she told Access Hollywood. Garner and husband Ben Affleck — parents of daughter Violet, 2 — recently snapped up a $16 million house in the L.A.'s Brentwood neighborhood as they prep for their new baby.

The Starter Wife's David Alan Basche and Alysia Renier Are Expecting
Starring in USA Network's The Starter Wife won't be the only joint project for David Alan Basche and Alysia Reiner. The couple is also expecting their first child together this winter, their rep tells People magazine.
Reiner, who starred in 2007's miniseries The Starter Wife, will be reprising her role on the network series this fall. Basche, also a regular cast member on NBC's Lipstick Jungle, will be joining the cast opposite Debra Messing as her character's ex-husband, Kenny Kagan.
Basche and Reiner first met during a summer theater program in Vermont several years ago. "The script said fall in love," says Bashe. "You don't argue with Shakespeare!"

Ben & Jen Expecting?
The baby buzz on Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck is getting louder.
Rumors that Garner is expecting the couple's second child were kick-started earlier this month when a tabloid report claimed Garner and Affleck had already told friends their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Violet is getting a sibling.
Speculation really ramped up when Garner starting wearing loose-fitting tops capable of hiding a growing belly. Now comes another possible clue, according to E! online.
The two were spotted together Wednesday at an L.A. obstetrician's office to meet with a doctor. Garner sat in the reception area reading a magazine, but when Affleck arrived, they were almost immediately called in to see the doc.
Reps for Garner and Affleck are not commenting one way or the other. The baby-bump watch will continue!

Question of the Week
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are expecting a baby girl tentatively due on October 31.
"Ashlee and Pete are on cloud nine," an insider told Star magazine for its latest issue. "The doctor told them they actually conceived the baby just before Valentine's Day while they were on vacation and has given them an initial due date of Oct. 31. When Pete heard he might have his baby on Halloween, he went nuts. For an emo-rocker type like Pete, that would be just too perfect!"
Pete officially announced Ashlee's pregnancy through a post on his website towards the end of May.

Pregnancy boosts heart attack risk
Although heart attacks are rare among young women, becoming pregnant does double or triple a woman's risk, a new study finds.
"This is a unique phenomenon in the sense that these are young women who are not supposed to have [heart attacks]," said lead researcher Dr. Uri Elkayam, a professor of medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Mediterranean diet in pregnancy may curb allergies
Women who eat a Mediterranean diet while pregnant could help stave off asthma and allergies in their children, a new study suggests.
The traditional Mediterranean diet is rich in plant-based foods -- vegetables, fruits, whole grain breads and cereals, legumes, and nuts -- as well as olive oil and fish. Adherents consume low to moderate amounts of dairy products and eggs, lesser amounts of white meat, and infrequently eat red meat.
Some studies have suggested that such eating patterns can lower children's odds of asthma symptoms and skin and nasal allergies. But it's unclear whether women can affect their children's future allergy risks by following a Mediterranean diet during pregnancy.

Episiotomy raises tear risk in next delivery
Episiotomy, an incision of the perineum intended to prevent tearing during the delivery of baby, may cause problems when a woman has another baby, a new study shows.
Researchers found that women who undergo episiotomy during their first vaginal delivery have an increased likelihood of suffering a tear, or laceration, in subsequent deliveries.
"In the past, episiotomy was thought to be an innocuous procedure and possibly even protective against severe perineal lacerations," Dr. Marianna Alperin told Reuters Health. "It has since been clearly shown that episiotomy increases the risk of severe obstetrical lacerations in that delivery."

Self-help may ease back pain from pregnancy
Lower back pain is common during and after pregnancy, but learning a few self-management techniques may ease the pain for many women, a study suggests.
In a clinical trial involving 126 women with lingering back pain after childbirth, Dutch researchers found that those who learned self-management measures from a physical therapist fared better than those given standard care.
Three months after delivery, they had less pain and fewer physical limitations, and had generally returned to work sooner than women in the standard-care group.
The findings, published in the online journal BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, suggest that learning how to deal with back pain in day-to-day life can be more useful to women than typical medical care.

Pregnancy is linked to forgetfulness: Study
Many women believe they become more forgetful when pregnant -- a new study reveals they are right, for researchers have discovered that a hormone linked to Alzheimer's spikes during that period.
Until now, only widespread anecdotal evidence from mothers-to-be supported claims that pregnancy actually caused forgetfulness. Now, a team in Australia has replicated the effects in the laboratory.

Study Recommends Fish Eating in Pregnancy, Avoiding Mercury
Scientists based at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School for Public Health recently published a study which assessed the relationship between fish eating and mercury levels during pregnancy and the subsequent brain function in children who were the result of those pregnancies.
The scientists in this research assessed the fish intake of 341 women in the second trimester (middle three months) of pregnancy. They also measured blood levels of mercury in these women. The children born to these women were assessed at the age of three with tests of vocabulary and visual motor abilities.

Researcher Finds Link Between Pregnancy and Tooth Loss
There's some truth to the old wives' tale that "for every child, the mother loses a tooth," according to a New York University professor who found that women with more children are more likely to have missing teeth.
Dr. Stefanie Russell, an assistant professor of epidemiology and health promotion, examined data on 2,635 women, ages 18 to 64, who reported at least one pregnancy in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Cell Phones Risky During Pregnancy?
Mothers who use cell phones during pregnancy -- and let their small children use cell phones -- increase their child's risk of serious behavior problems by 80%.
Or maybe not.
"This is just a statistical association. We don't know if it is causal or not," study researcher Jorn Olsen, PhD, tells WebMD. Olsen is professor and chair of epidemiology at the University of California Los Angeles School of Public Health.
The finding comes from a survey of mothers of 13,159 Danish children enrolled in a long-term study looking at how various exposures during pregnancy affect children's long-term health. At the time of the current survey, the children were 7 years old.

Stress in pregnancy raises risks for baby: study
Women who are stressed about money, relationships and other problems during pregnancy may give birth to babies who are predisposed to allergies and asthma, U.S. researchers said on Sunday.
The findings, presented at a meeting of the American Thoracic Society in Toronto, suggest a mother's stress during pregnancy may have lasting consequences for her child.
"This research adds to a growing body of evidence that links maternal stress such as that precipitated by financial problems or relationship issues to changes in children's developing immune systems, even during pregnancy," Dr. Rosalind Wright of Harvard Medical School in Boston said in a statement.

One-third of pregnant women drink alcohol
Up to a third of Australian women continue to drink alcohol during pregnancy, despite growing awareness that it puts the unborn child at risk.
And contrary to expectations, higher levels of education make the mother-to-be more likely to imbibe, Australian medical researchers say.
The findings are based on a national survey of 1103 women of child-bearing age in 2006 and undermine health educators' hopes that the message not to drink when pregnant has resonated with expectant mothers.

Study Finds Diet During Pregnancy Determines Sex of Baby
We had to go to Londong (via India) for this one: London, April 23: It seems there's some truth in old wives' tales on baby gender, for a new study has revealed that to-be-mom's diet during pregnancy can actually influence her child's sex. A team of researchers from Oxford University and Exeter University has found that women can influence the sex of their child by what they eat around the time of conception, the Biological Sciences journal reported.
