In yet another surprising development in the Republican presidential campaign, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin confirmed in a statement Monday that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant.
Alaska governor Palin, who was selected to be John McCain's vice president last week, said, "Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support."
Bristol plans to marry the father of the child, 18-year-old Levi Johnston, Palin continued in the statement. "Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family."
The 44-year-old governor released the statement to combat a rumor that Bristol may have been the mother of Palin's youngest son, Trig, who was born in April.
The McCain campaign confirmed it was aware of Bristol's pregnancy before it selected Palin and said it did not affect McCain's choice.

C-section may complicate next pregnancies
Cesarean delivery performed in a first pregnancy appears to increase the risk of complications in later pregnancies, researchers have shown.
The findings stem from an analysis of Norway registry data for 637,497 first and second births in women with at least two single births and 242,812 first, second, and third births in women with at least three single births.
Compared to a vaginal first birth, a cesarean delivery at first birth approximately doubled the risk in a second pregnancy of a woman developing pre-eclampsia, placenta abnormalities, and having a small baby, according to a report in the June issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Triplets for Charlie Sheen?
Although newlyweds Charlie Sheen, 42, and Brooke Mueller, 30, are denying rumors she is already pregnant, it sounds like it won’t be long before those rumors are a reality.
“Doesn’t mean it’s not part of the plan,” Sheen tells Extra when asked about the baby rumors. “It’s just not happening as we speak.”
How many children does Mueller see in their future? “Hopefully triplets! Could you imagine if I really had triplets? He’s be like, ‘Whoa!’”
The star is already a father to his two daughters with ex-wife Denise Richards, 4-year-old Sam and 2-year-old Lola, as well as 23-year-old Cassandra with ex Paula Profitt.

Baby born after rare ovarian pregnancy
A woman in a northern Australian city gave birth to a healthy baby girl after a rare full-term ectopic pregnancy, a hospital official said Friday.
Meera Thangarajah, 34, had no symptoms or complications during her pregnancy, so doctors performing a routine Caesarean section Thursday were shocked to find that the baby had developed in the ovary rather than the uterus.
