My husband is in the military and frequently is gone. So I have to clean the litter although I am pregnant. There is a risk, but there are steps to take to make it less risky. The best idea is to hire a pet sitter to come and clean the litter or pay a neighboor. If you do it yourself you need to wear a mask and rubber gloves. Clean the litter and then wash your hands throughouhly. I also wiped the handle on the lid with an antibacterical wipe. I am 6 months pregnant and have not had any issues, but I have heard horror stories. So far I am healthy and baby is doing great. I love my animals and could never give them away. Hope this helps</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/10312142/2808119559952515749/comments/default/2213265227034590574'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/10312142/2808119559952515749/comments/default/2213265227034590574'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pregnancy-blog.parentingweekly.com/2008/04/ask-vets-pets-pregnant-woman-can-safely.html?showComment=1208706960000#c2213265227034590574' title=''/><author><name>Jennifer</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/17658642951373140732</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://pregnancy-blog.parentingweekly.com/2008/04/ask-vets-pets-pregnant-woman-can-safely.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10312142.post-2808119559952515749' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/10312142/posts/default/2808119559952515749' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
