Public education is critical to helping parents understand the value
of cord blood stem cells. That was the message Dr. Frances Verter
delivered in an op-ed
she recently penned for The Baltimore Sun. Dr. Verter should know - she
is the founder and executive director of the Parent's Guide to Cord
Blood Foundation and the website ParentsGuideCordBlood.org, which provides expectant parents with information about cord blood stem cells and cord blood banks.
Dr. Verter is also the parent of a child who passed away in 1997 from
leukemia, a condition that can be treated with cord blood stem cells.
As a result, “I have made it my life's mission to educate expectant
parents about the value of these cells, and hopefully persuade them not
to throw them away,” Dr. Verter explains in her editorial.
