I have 2 cats and could not dream of getting rid of them. My husband is in the military and frequently is gone. So I have to clean the litter although I am pregnant. There is a risk, but there are steps to take to make it less risky. The best idea is to hire a pet sitter to come and clean the litter or pay a neighboor. If you do it yourself you need to wear a mask and rubber gloves. Clean the litter and then wash your hands throughouhly. I also wiped the handle on the lid with an antibacterical wipe. I am 6 months pregnant and have not had any issues, but I have heard horror stories. So far I am healthy and baby is doing great. I love my animals and could never give them away. Hope this helps
