Use Caution Around Cats If You Are Pregnant

I've posted about this subject in previous posts. I just think it's important for pregnant women to know the necessary caution that should be taken around cats, especially near kitty litter. Continue reading the article to find to get a better understanding. _________________________________________________________ Contrary to old beliefs, pregnant women do not need to get rid of their cats. However, there are important things that pregnant women who own cats need to know to keep their unborn babies safe. There is a parasite that all warm-blooded mammals can catch called Toxoplasma gondii. This parasite can cause birth deformities if a woman becomes infected during pregnancy. People can catch this parasite by eating raw or undercooked meat of animals infected with the parasite, or by accidentally ingesting fecal material with the infective eggs of the parasite in them. About 30 percent of cats are infected with Toxoplasma gondii, and early in their infections they can shed the parasite’s eggs in their feces. It takes 24 hours for the parasite to change into its contagious form once in the feces. Cats shed eggs in the first two to three weeks of a new infection. People can avoid infection by thorough hand-washing and scooping the litter box daily. A third to one-half of people have been exposed to the parasite in their lives and are already carrying antibodies that protect against reinfection. A simple blood test can be performed to see if you already have an antibody titer to toxoplasmosis. If you are positive, then you do not need to worry about infection when pregnant. Only a new infection can harm your unborn baby. If you are negative, you may want to have your cat tested for Toxoplasma gondii. If your cat is positive, you may want another member of the family to be responsible for cleaning the litter box during your pregnancy or, if you must, wash thoroughly afterward and try to scoop the stool before 24 hours has passed. In addition to avoiding cat litter, pregnant women should be careful to wear gloves and wash thoroughly after gardening and when handling sand boxes, since cat feces can be found in these areas as well. Niki Taylor Loves Being a "Hot Mom"

Niki Taylor may be a hot model, but according to Us magazine, what the former CoverGirl values most these days is her hot mom status. The Hottest Mom in America host and mother of 12-year-old twin boys took time out of her busy schedule to give Usmagazine.com a call from her home in Nashville and share her sexy secrets.
Us: You're the host for a new TV show called Hottest Mom In America, set to air next year. What can you tell us about the project?

Niki Taylor: [Producers are] looking for the mom who is most comfortable [as] the PTA mom and a mom where all the kids go and hang out at her house. It helps if she’s a hot mom, too. They’re looking for a combination of what’s on the inside and on the outside.

Us: What can you tell us about the contestants who auditioned?

NT: They had to do a photo shoot in bikinis. I don’t do bikinis anymore, so I would have been mortified. They didn’t know going in what they’d be surprised with.

Us: You’re a newlywed – and your sons must love how your new hubby [Burney Lamar] is a NASCAR driver. Is your household brimming with testosterone?

NT: [Laughs] There’s a lot of testosterone, but I love it. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m so blessed with the three men in my life.

Us: Do you and Burney want more children?

NT: Oh yes! I think we’re going to try at the end of the year. [I want] a few more.

Us: In addition to being a mom, you also manage to operate a Nashville boutique called Abbie & Jesse’s.

NT: You know what? I don’t mean to brag or anything, but my life is pretty cool right now! I’ve got a store I can get stuff at anytime I want. It’s like a big closet.

Us: What are some sexy hot-mom fashion trends you’re into this season?

NT: You can’t go wrong with jeans, a high heel and a sexy top. That’s just uniform for a hot mom.

POSH'S DIET PLAN FOR A BABY GIRL

I HEAR the Beckhams have gone all new age in a desperate bid for a baby girl.

David and Victoria, who have three boys - Brooklyn, seven, Romeo, four, and 18-month-old Cruz - have been taking advice on how to better their chances of having a girl.

Posh is so determined she has put David on a special "daughter diet" - rich in alkaline foods. She has also pledged to get a tattoo of an ethnic fertility sign.

David has been limiting his intake of red meat and chomping down on vast quantities of rabbit food.

Under the new regime, which Victoria is overseeing with military precision, caffeine and alcohol are completely out.

Dairy foods are also forbidden. Instead, it's steamed veg or salads of lettuce, asparagus, avocado and peppers with white meat or fish.

But just in case, Victoria has also looked at tattoos.

"Victoria said she is going to get a fertility sign in an intimate place, for David's eyes only," says a source close to the couple. "She has always been fascinated by diet and she likes the idea that David can take positive action to increase the chance that they will have a girl."

Last night a spokesman for the Beckhams said: "The couple are not trying for a baby just yet." But they did not rule out that the Beckhams might want a girl in the future.

However, I hope some strictness turns David on. Because otherwise life doesn't sound like much fun.
