? OF THE WEEK: Did You Save Your Positive Pregnancy Test Stick?

Nowadays many women who want to find out if they are pregnant or not resort to using on home pregnancy test. Various women have kept their positive pregnancy sticks as mementos. I never thought of saving the test. I only saved it long enough to show my hubby when he got home, then I threw it out. Honestly, once you see the result of the test it is a life-changing event and the pregnancy stick signifies the beginning of a different life. A recent New York Times story describes the phenomenon of women saving their positive pregnancy test sticks.

The article goes on to explain how it is unique to this generation because home testing is so widely used now. Our mothers had to go to the doctor’s office for their pregnancy tests.

I personally have every single one of my positive sticks — even when I retested out of disbelief. They are stuck in a little drawer underneath my vanity skirt. I can tell which one belongs to which baby by the brand. (I guess writing on it with a Sharpie would be easier.)

I kept mine because we did struggle to get pregnant. By the time it finally happened, I was so happy and incredulous that I wanted to keep the proof that I was really pregnant. It was a big deal to finally make that darn stick turn a color.

Have you kept all your positive pregnancy test sticks? Why did you keep them and where did you store them? Does your husband/partner know you saved them? Source

I definitly saved mine from both pregnancies. To us it was a sign of thier first hello's! So we decided to keep them because we found it as important as thier first shoes or first painting.....whats better then thier first hello to you!...nothing beats that!

This is why I'm keeping the (two) I used at the beginning of my current pregnancy.
A little over two years ago, I got married. I being in my late twenties and my husband somewhat older, we decided to start trying for children right away. Endless cycles and countless negative tests later, we finally went to a fertility specialist who put me on medication for an underactive thyroid and also gave me Clomid. Most women need to take this drug two or three cycles to get pregnant. I did on the first try and was so shocked at the first, very faint test, that I honestly couldn't believe it. A week later, I tested again, somehow amazed (even though a line is a line is a line in this case) that I was "still" pregnant. I didn't have a whole lot of faith in my body at that point.
So I guess I'm saving those two tests because, for once my body did what it was supposed to do and I need to see those sticks every once in awhile to remind myself of how incredulous I was when we first found out. At present, the nausea makes it hard to remember sometimes.

I kept my pregnancy sticks throughout the pregnancy...kind of like a lucky charm. Once the baby was born and healthy, I threw them away.

Yes! I definitely kept mine. ALL 3...LOL. I kept mine sticks because it took almost 6 years for my husband and I to get pregnant. Though we got married at 21 we were ready to immediately begin having a family. Out of the 3 tests I took only, 1 is still showing positive. I may just throw the other 2 out. But whatever my decision may be I will put it in my first baby scrapbook for memories. To remind me of one of the most happiest times of my life and to show my baby how he/she is a dream come true :)

I saved mine... We thought that it would be perfect for the first page of the scrapbook. Even though you can no longer see the result, we still know what it said at one time. It told us that our baby boy was coming soon.

I saved my pregnancy test. I wanted to have it as a memento for my baby. I have saved everything from this pregnancy. I will probably save everything after she is born too. I just want her to be able to see that stuff when she is older and I want her to know that even before she was born I loved her.

I didn't save for very long. I kept long enough to have some limited viewing pleasure, then threw them out when morning sickness hit and the thought of storing things with pee on them made me throw up (this is my 4th pregnancy--4th child).

This is my first pregnancy. I never even thought about keeping it. I took 8 tests and had them lined up across the bathroom counter. My husband actually came in and picked up the first one i took. He said " We better hang on to this one." He is going to be a wonderful father.

My pregnancy was unexpected, i was having a routine check up when the Doctor announced I was aprox 7 weeks pregnant. I went out a week later and bought a home kit and did a test just so i could see a positive result and keep the test result.

I saved the one from my first pregnancy until just before he was born. My husband was teasing me, so I wound up throwing it out.

The second (and current!) pregnancy, I never did a home test. I had gone in for a routine doctor's appointment and they informed me of the miracle. I was unaware until that moment. What a surprise!

I took a pregnancy test on my birthday-it was a day before I was supposed to get my period, but I figured it would be a perfect gift. It was positive and so I will keep it like I have kept other gifts. I also kept it because it was Father's Day the next day-so it's my husband's first Father's Day gift as well.

I have saved all of mine. I wrote the date I took it on the stick to tell them apart. I have one from 2002, 2004,and now 2007. I am currently preggo with number 3. I keep it in a box of baby pics and sonogram photos

I saved all 3 with my daughter and have saved all 4 with this pregnancy, I'm still in denial about this one though, so there may be a few more to add to the collection.
I didn't keep the positive from my miscarriage though, \i couldn't

YES! I kept my home test. I also have the test they gave me at the Dr.s office. I was so excited at the positive result that the nurse bagged it for me and gave it to me as I was headed out the door to share the good news! This is my first baby at 37 and I feel like a dream has come true. I am glad I am not the only one out there who kept the test!
