Twins take over Hollywood!

Every once in awhile, we hear that a celebrity baby is, in fact, celebrity babies. Cybil Shepherd, Mia Farrow and Julia Roberts have all had twins, but their pregnancies were months - years - apart. This has been true for decades when it comes to multiple pregnancies in Hollywood. Apparently, not anymore! According to Celebrity Baby Blog, not one couple, not two couples, but SIX hot Hollywood mamas are on schedule to give birth to twins this spring. Actors Marcia Cross and Patrick Dempsey, and musicians Melissa Etheridge, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Elvis Costello and Nick Valensi, along with their significant others, will soon join the ranks of the 20,000 couples who give birth to twins in the United States each year.

The most obvious reason for the growing birth rates of twins and multiples is the use of fertility drugs and treatments. Recent studies from the Center for Disease Control show that approximately 43 percent of live births resulting from assisted reproductive techniques were multiples.

But fertility drugs can't be the only reason.

I thought it might have something to do with geography, so I did some research. According to a study done by the National Center for Health Statistics, if you reside in Massachusetts or Connecticut, the rates for twin deliveries is as much as 25 percent higher than the overall national rate. On the other hand, if you reside in Hawaii, your chances of having a multiple pregnancy will decrease to about 30 percent below the overall U.S. rate. But what about Beverly Hills?

It must be something in the water.
